Sunday 31st August 2020 - Message from James Beanland
WE BLOODY DID IT! We smashed the target and now sit at £4,069! The support has been completely overwhelming so from Ben Turnbull, Hambo, The Foundation and I, thank you so much! It's an incredible feeling to know how far this money will go to help and your generosity has been simply inspiring!
Along with the fantastic money raised we have received the most amazing support and exposure from so many people. The rugby family has really opened it's arms and helped us along the way.
Whilst the list is endless we would like to give special thanks to:
Jonny Bland - who wanted to do the first 40-50 miles with us to break the wind and ended up doing the whole ride with us - what a guy!
Rob Baxter - support guru - amazing effort in keeping us fuelled up all the way mate - thank you!
Charles Hurst Photography - great effort to meet us so early on in the morning and capture some great stills of the earlier stages!
Hicks Clicks Photography - last minute addition to the team and took some incredible shots of the final stages and finish line !
Oadby Wyggs - Your OWRFC Wheelers were such an incredible support group in navigating us around the more central Leicester areas - thank you!
Birstall Rugby Club - Such a great effort in meeting us at Loughborough and guiding us all the way to Syston! Excellent effort lads thanks!
Loughborough RFC - thank you for hosting us for lunch, opening the facilities and the cappuccino's!
Barbara Crellin and Leicestershire Rugby Union thank you for your social media powers and arranging such great digital, print and TV media coverage for us.
Gary Crellin and the team at Oakham RFC for opening up early in the morning and hosting such a great finish line event.
Market Harborough Rugby Club, Syston RFC & Lutterworth RFC for the welcoming committees and cheering us on!
Kate Beanland & Jessica Burgess - for putting up with our relentless cycling chat and moans about the aches & pains!
Last but not least thank you to The Matt Hampson Foundation for letting us represent them. It's been an absolute privilege to be associated with such an incredible cause and help the inspiring people who make up that great team!
August 2020 Announcement from Paul Elms (Minis and Junior Chairman)
I won’t ask if you’ve all had a good summer. I don’t think anyone has!
The upcoming season is one that is going to present us all with challenges unlike any other.
We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the club on the 6thSeptember and have attempted to put as many safeguards in for now and the rest of the season.
Membership and subs –
We are not planning on signing up memberships at the clubhouse on the 6th September.
Mainly for Covid reasons, we would like everyone to sign up on line. Richard Gant has put a document explaining the process. You may already have this, but it is attached here to for reference.
Apparently this is much easier on a computer than via a mobile device.
If anyone has issues with the online process, we will be available from the 13th onwards to help to register and pay.
Matches and training -
We are cancelling all scheduled fixtures up to the end of October. From then onwards we will be reviewing the situation on a month by month basis based on the most up to date situation and guidelines.
The current guidelines are to play up to 10 a side touch rugby for all age groups. Iain Simpson will explain further at the briefing on the 6th.
To keep or members as safe as possible we would aim to keep each age group in their specific year group bubble.
I will issue a pitch plan before the start of the season so you can see where you are located.
It is imperative that admin for each age group keep a register of attendees each week. Admins should keep these lists for their own records. These records should include a phone number if we need to contact.
Everyone should have their own water bottle and not share this with other people.
Sunday 6th September -
The plan for the 6th is as follows –
9.30 – coaches briefing from Iain Simpson – ideally this will be on the patio area outside the clubhouse
Each year group will be issued with a token for a free burger and a drink for each member.
Admins for each age group will need to distribute these tokens amongst their year groups
10.30 – 12.00 – training in year group bubbles.
12.00 onwards –
We believe the weather is going to be ok on the 6th and are planning on as much as possible taking place outside.
Each age group will be called forward in turn to get their food.
Soft drinks and food will be available from the right hand side of the pitch entrance to the clubhouse.
Beer, etc will be available from the bar. Please respect social distancing while queuing for both food and drink
Additional drinks will be available to purchase at the bar if required.
Please note: there will be no bacon rolls available on the 6th.
We do plan on having some kit available to purchase. Again this will be outside, probably to the left of the clubhouse when viewed from the pitch.
More to follow, but hopefully enough to be going on with and to contact with your age groups.
Usual apologies if you’re no longer involved.
Please let me know if that’s the case and I will drop you off the list.
Also – can age groups also let me know if anyone needs adding to the list
Look forward to seeing you on Sunday 6th September
