Oakham RFC’s first home game of the 2026/27 season will be about much more than rugby.

On Saturday 3rd October, when our 1st XV welcome Stamford College Old Boys to Oakham, the club will come together for Fiji Day, remembering and celebrating the life of Savenaca “Tu” Koroibulileka.

Ten years ago, on 24th September 2016, Tu tragically passed away after collapsing during a match for Oakham RFC. His loss had a profound effect on his teammates, friends and everyone across the club.

Tu was a much-loved member of the Oakham rugby family, remembered not only as a player but for his friendship, personality and unmistakable smile.

His connection with Oakham has never been forgotten. As a lasting mark of respect, the No.4 shirt was retired from the 1st XV and replaced by No.42 – Tu’s shirt.

This season’s first home fixture will also be the first time our 1st XV take to the Oakham pitch in their new playing kit, with the No.42 shirt continuing that tradition and once again carrying Tu’s memory onto the field.

Tu’s family will be joining us for the day, and ahead of kick-off the club will hold a minute’s silence in his memory.

Match Day Lunch from 12.00pm

The day will begin in the clubhouse with our first Match Day Lunch of the season from 12.00pm, giving members, supporters, friends and families the chance to get together ahead of the game.

The two-course lunch is £20 for adults and £10 for juniors, with advance booking essential.

Following the match, everyone is invited to stay at the clubhouse for a traditional Fijian Feast, as friends, family, players, former players and supporters come together to remember Tu and celebrate his life and legacy.

From the pre-match lunch through to the rugby and the Fijian Feast afterwards, we hope as many people as possible will join us for what promises to be a very special day at Oakham RFC.

Whether you knew Tu personally, played alongside him, have joined Oakham since, or simply want to be part of the occasion, everyone is welcome.
