Oakham travelled with a determined squad and produced a strong performance throughout, competing well across the park and taking their chances when they came.

The visitors opened the scoring in spectacular fashion when David Styles intercepted a pass deep in Oakham territory and sprinted the length of the field for a superb individual try. Lewis Crellin added the extras as Oakham settled into the contest.

Vipers responded, but Oakham continued to battle hard and remained firmly in the game. Sam Weatherall added Oakham’s second try following sustained pressure, while Crellin’s reliable boot kept the scoreboard ticking with three penalties.

At half-time Oakham held a narrow advantage, leading 15–12, reflecting a well-balanced and competitive opening period.

The second half remained tight, with both sides battling for territory and possession. Oakham defended well for long spells but Vipers continued to apply pressure as the game moved into the closing minutes.

With time almost up, the hosts found a breakthrough, scoring a last-minute try to edge ahead 24–21. The conversion was missed, but it proved enough to deny Oakham what would have been a deserved away victory.

Despite the result, there were plenty of positives for Oakham, including another strong contribution from Lewis Crellin, whose kicking took his season tally to 107 points.

Oakham now turn their focus to a return to the Showground this weekend.
