9. WHO ARE THE SAFEGUARDING OFFICERS? (SGO)


Pip Tebbs is a Senior Mental Health Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional.

She has years of experience within statutory safeguarding, and as the Designated Safeguarding Officer along with training through the NSPCC as a Trainer for Safeguarding Training. She is a Mental Health First Aider, Domestic Abuse Champion, and holds Level 1 and 2 Counselling Qualifications.

Barbara Crellin is the Assistant Safeguarding Officer and Rugby Safe Manager for the LRU and ORFC. She has vast experience in Safeguarding and Player Welfare and as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is a First Aider, Mental Health First Aider and Community First Responder with EMAS.

What does the SGO do?

  • Provide a point of contact and lead in safeguarding children within the club
  • Ensure a positive and supportive environment, in which children can enjoy rugby safely, is maintained
  • Keep up to date with safeguarding developments and ensure these are distributed to the club
  • Ensure policies remain current and relevant to best practice safeguarding
  • Support everyone to understand the RFU codes of conduct and core values: TREDS
  • Complete safeguarding audits, ensure training is up to date and DBS checks current

Safeguarding and Rugby Safe are different roles but work hand in hand as the roles cross over
